Dr. Javad Forati was born in the city of Shiraz. He completed his primary education in his hometown and then moved to Tehran to continue his studies, attending Alborz High School as a boarding student in the Mathematics field. Dr. Forati earned his Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Tehran. He then completed his Master's degree at the University of Michigan, USA, and his Ph.D. at the University of Waterloo, Canada. Dr. Forati returned to his homeland with the aim of participating in the establishment of the School of Engineering at Shiraz University and played a key role in its foundation. His responsibilities during this period included planning academic affairs, securing suitable space, and equipping the school. Finally, the School of Engineering began its activities in October 1964 (Mehr 1343), admitting 40 students. Throughout his years of service, he held various positions, including Head of the Road and Building Department, Vice Dean and Dean of the School of Engineering, Administrative and Financial Vice President, and Head of the Development and Renovation Organization of Shiraz University. Dr. Forati, who is considered one of the principal founders of the School of Engineering at Shiraz University, passed away peacefully in November 2025 (Aban 1404) after many years of service. His memory and legacy will forever be cherished.
دکتر جواد فراتی در شهر شیراز دیده به جهان گشودند. ایشان تحصیلات ابتدایی را در زادگاه خود سپری نموده و سپس برای ادامه تحصیل عازم تهران شدند و در دبیرستان البرز، به صورت شبانهروزی در رشته ریاضی تحصیل کردند. دکتر فراتی کارشناسی خود را در رشته مهندسی عمران از دانشکده فنی دانشگاه تهران اخذ نموده، کارشناسی ارشد را در دانشگاه میشیگان آمریکا و دکتری را در دانشگاه وترلو کانادا به پایان رساندند. دکتر فراتی با هدف مشارکت در تأسیس دانشکده مهندسی دانشگاه شیراز به میهن بازگشتند و در پایهگذاری دانشکده مهندسی نقش آفرین شدند. برنامهریزی امور آموزشی، تهیه فضای مناسب و تجهیز دانشکده از جمله مسئولیتهای ایشان در این دوره بود. سرانجام، دانشکده مهندسی در مهرماه سال ۱۳۴۳ با پذیرش ۴۰ دانشجو فعالیت خود را آغاز نمود. ایشان در طول سالهای خدمت، سمتهای متعددی از جمله ریاست بخش راه و ساختمان، معاونت و ریاست دانشکده مهندسی، معاونت اداری و مالی و همچنین سرپرستی سازمان توسعه و عمران دانشگاه شیراز را بر عهده داشتند. دکتر فراتی که از بنیانگذاران اصلی دانشکده مهندسی دانشگاه شیراز محسوب میشوند، که پس از سالها خدمت، در آبانماه ۱۴۰۴ به آرامش ابدی پیوستند. یاد و خاطره ایشان همواره گرامی خواهد بود.
