Heat Transfer Laboratory

Students investigate the methods of heat transfer such as conduction, convection, and radiation in heat transfer laboratory. This hands-on experience is crucial for developing effective thermal management systems in engineering projects. The following experiments are conducted in this lab:

  • Determination of thermal conductivity of air
  • Determination of thermal conductivity of solids
  • Investigation of heat transfer and measurement of overall heat transfer coefficient in shell and tube heat exchanger
  • Investigation of heat transfer and measurement of overall heat transfer coefficient in double pipe heat exchanger
  • Investigation of heat transfer and measurement of heat transfer coefficient in cross flow heat exchanger
  • Investigation of temperature profile distribution in fins
  • Investigation of radiation heat transfer mechanism

Through the laboratory experience students can do the following:

  • Develop deeper understanding of concepts.
  • Experience phenomena directly.
  • Connect book knowledge to real-world applications.
  • Apply concepts to new situations and solve authentic problems.
  • Develop thinking skills (critical, quantitative, qualitative).
  • Develop data analysis skills.
  • Develop experimental skills (e.g., design, observation, and use of equipment).
  • Develop communication skills, including those involved in working in groups.
  • Develop an appreciation for research in the field.
